Our Priorities
Our priorities are guided by our Members, Board, Community, and our Strategic Plan. Through our existing programs, we support our Member Services by developing and delivering high-quality programs, projects, resources, support, and training opportunities.
There is always more work to be done to improve health outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people in South Australia. We lead and contribute to work focused on advocacy, consultation, and the development of clear position statements. This work helps us identify gaps, respond to Community needs, and focus on the areas where change is still needed.
Consultation
The Narungga Nation Aboriginal Corporation (NNAC) and Point Pearce Aboriginal Corporation (PPAC) are representing the leadership and priorities of the local Aboriginal Community. They have partnered with AHCSA to explore whether a new Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Service (ACCHS) can be established in Yorke Peninsula and nearby areas. This feasibility study is being led alongside the Department for Health and Wellbeing and the Yorke and Northern Local Health Network.
Policy Statement
The new Aged Care Act 2024 comes into effect on 1 November 2025 — a pivotal opportunity to create a system that truly honours and respects our Elders. But without urgent action, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Elders risk being left behind.
Our Tackling Indigenous Smoking and Vaping (TIS-V) program brought together frontline staff for a two-day Workforce Development and Training Workshop in Adelaide earlier this month.
On the 4th June, the South Australian Labor Government delivered its 2026-27 State Budget. AHSCA has summarised what this budget likely means for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, communities and community-controlled organsations in South Australia.
We are deeply saddened by the passing of Professor Peter Buckskin, a respected leader and advocate whose work has left a lasting legacy, both in South Australia and nationally.
