Our Primary Health Programs support Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities across South Australia by strengthening prevention, early detection, and coordinated care for priority health areas
These programs focus on improving long-term health outcomes through culturally safe, community-led approaches and strong partnerships across the health system.
The Primary Health priority areas are guided by Community needs and can align with broad national priority areas. We work closely with our Members and stakeholders to support best-practice models of care, build workforce capability, improve referral pathways, and ensure Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Services (ACCHS) are supported to deliver high-quality primary health care.
The Ear Health Program supports Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Services to improve ear and hearing health outcomes for Aboriginal children and communities across South Australia. The program focuses on prevention, early detection, and best-practice management of ear disease, including otitis media. The program provides training, resources, and system support to strengthen ear health models of care, build workforce capability, and improve screening, referral pathways, and Community awareness.
The Eye Health Program works to improve eye health and vision outcomes for Aboriginal people in South Australia by strengthening coordination, capacity, and pathways across primary, secondary, and tertiary care. The program supports Members through training, system improvement, and advocacy, helping to embed eye care into routine clinical practice, strengthen referral pathways, and improve access to eye health services and resources.
The Cancer program supports Members to strengthen cancer prevention, screening, early detection, and care coordination for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities. The program focuses on providing resources, guidance, and workforce support to improve culturally safe cancer pathways and ensure communities are better supported across the cancer care continuum.
