Our Role
As the peak body for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health in South Australia, AHCSA works to improve the health and wellbeing of our mob across the state.
AHCSA is a trusted leader and partner, amplifying the voices of Aboriginal communities and Member Services to ensure their rights, aspirations and lived experience shape the policies, systems and decisions that affect their health and wellbeing. We uphold Aboriginal health in Aboriginal hands by providing strong and strategic peak body leadership for South Australia.
We advocate for communities and our Members, strengthen and sustain the Aboriginal Community Controlled Health sector, and work with governments and partners to drive system‑wide reform. We support Member Services to deliver high‑quality, culturally grounded health and wellbeing services, nurture the next generation of leaders, and build a skilled, culturally strong Aboriginal health workforce.
Through this trusted leadership, collaboration and unwavering commitment to community control, we work to improve health, healing and quality of life for all Aboriginal people in South Australia.
Our Tackling Indigenous Smoking and Vaping (TIS-V) program brought together frontline staff for a two-day Workforce Development and Training Workshop in Adelaide earlier this month.
On the 4th June, the South Australian Labor Government delivered its 2026-27 State Budget. AHSCA has summarised what this budget likely means for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, communities and community-controlled organsations in South Australia.
We are deeply saddened by the passing of Professor Peter Buckskin, a respected leader and advocate whose work has left a lasting legacy, both in South Australia and nationally.
