About Sexual Health

The Sexual and Reproductive Health and Blood Borne Virus Program works with Aboriginal health services and the broader health sector across South Australia, supporting the prevention and treatment of STIs and BBVs and the improvement of reproductive health outcomes for Aboriginal people.

The program supports ACCHSs and other services working with young Aboriginal people in the promotion of, and improved access to, opportunistic and voluntary sexually transmitted infection (STI) screening, including point-of-care testing, for people aged between 16 and 35 years.

The program aims to:

  • Provide Clinical Support – Developing clinical capacity to address the issues of sexually transmitted infections and blood borne viruses in the South Australian Aboriginal Community.
  • Education and training for services – Providing individualised training and education to services to address sexual health issues in their communities, and coordination of state-wide STI and BBV workshops for the Aboriginal health workforce.
  • Community education – Supporting the delivery of sexual health education to Community groups.
  • Health promotion events – Promoting sexual health at Community events.
