Closing the Gap Annual Data Compilation Report

The 2026 Closing the Gap Annual Data Compilation Report was released 29 July and shows mixed progress across National Agreement targets, with only 1 of the 19 Targets have been met. Improvements were reported in areas such as life expectancy and healthy birth weight, while challenges remain in adult imprisonment, child development, out-of-home care and suicide rates. The report also reinforces the importance of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community-governed data in supporting accountability and self-determination.
