Celebrating the Next Generation of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Leaders

Last week Aboriginal Health Council of South Australia (AHCSA) proudly celebrated nearly 150 graduates from our Certificate III & IV in Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Primary Health, as well as the Aboriginal Maternal and Infant Care certificate. These graduates, hailing from across South Australia and representing achievements over the past few years, mark a new wave of skilled health workers and practitioners committed to making a difference for our communities.

During the ceremony, AHCSA CEO Tanya McGregor and The Hon. Kyam Maher MLC, Minister for Aboriginal Affairs, addressed the graduates, underlining the vital role they will play in improving health outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. Both speakers recognised this graduation as not just a milestone, but the beginning of many ‘deadly journeys’ ahead.

Sharing her experience, Justine Sampson delivered a powerful message about the importance of Aboriginal Health Workers and Practitioners. She reminded the audience of the strength found in community connection and the crucial role health advocates play in ensuring future generations grow up stronger and healthier.

AHCSA congratulates all graduates and looks forward to supporting their ongoing impact in communities across South Australia.

We are grateful to Yitpi Yartapuultiku for welcoming us into their space for our graduation. Their cultural centre offered the ideal setting as our students embark on their journey.
