Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people are advised that this post contains the name and image of a deceased person.

We are deeply saddened by the passing of Professor Peter Buckskin, a respected leader and advocate whose work has left a lasting legacy, both in South Australia and nationally. His leadership strengthened partnerships, championed community voices, and drove real, meaningful change – improving outcomes for Aboriginal people.

This is a profound loss for Aboriginal communities and for South Australia as a whole. Professor Buckskin’s passion, wisdom, and commitment will be greatly missed.

Peter’s connection to AHCSA is woven through his long-standing commitment to Aboriginal health, community empowerment, and the advancement of our sector. We also honour his deep and enduring partnership with his late wife, Mary Buckskin, AHCSA’s longest serving CEO. Together, Peter and Mary were a formidable force for change – their shared leadership, courage, and vision continue to guide our work today.

We extend our heartfelt condolences to Peter’s family, loved ones, colleagues, and the many communities who feel this loss so profoundly. His passing leaves a significant void, but his legacy will continue to inspire and strengthen us for generations to come.
