In recognition of the extremely high rates of injury in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities, the National Public Health Partnership established the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Injury Prevention Action Committee (ATSIIPAC) in September 2002, to provide a forum for leadership in injury prevention amongst Indigenous people in Australia.

Throughout the website the term Aboriginal is used in this context to include people who identify as Aboriginal, people who identify as Torres Strait Islander Peoples and people who identify as both Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander. It is also used interchangeably with the term Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander.
