Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has announced the Indigenous Voice to Parliament referendum will be held on Saturday, October 14.
Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people have frequently been excluded from decision-making processes. We are treated as a subject of debate, a problem to be solved by non-Indigenous people who believe they know what is best for us. This approach is condescending and disempowers us. This year, on this specific issue, we are being consulted. Participation in this referendum is a once-in-a-generation chance for us to influence a decision about us.
Here's everything you need to know about the Voice.
