Member Governance

A key response to the AHCSA Constitutional Objective is the provision of support for Member Governance and organisational development.

AHCSA provides support through its Member Support staff in line with the AHCSA endorsed NACCHO Governance Code: National Principles and Guidelines for Good Governance.

The Governance Code consists of seven principles. The Board will provide good governance and leadership by:

  1. Implementing community control
  2. Understanding their role
  3. Ensuring delivery of the organisation’s objectives
  4. Working effectively both as individuals and as a team
  5. Exercising effective control
  6. Behaving with integrity
  7. Being open and accountable

AHCSA provides practical support to its Members through:

  • Support for key governance processes, such as AGMs, Constitution/Rule Book review
  • Support for Board development through facilitation of Board Induction session and other Board development upon request
  • Support for addressing Board practice issues
  • Liaison with incorporation bodies
  • Support for strategic planning/review processes
  • Support for senior staff recruitment
  • Development of Board processes to meet accreditation standards
  • Engagement with state/national stakeholders in the governance space
  • Support for transition of incorporation types
