Rheumatic Heart Disease Control

The Rheumatic Heart Disease (RHD) Control program will:


  • Provide support to Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Sectors (ACCHSs) in South Australia outside the Anangu Pitjantjatjara Yankunytjatjara (APY) Lands in developing and maintaining effective and sustainable Rheumatic Heart Disease (RHD) control programs;
  • Ensure that clinical staff within ACCHSs are adequately trained in the diagnosis and management of ARF/RHD;
  • Ensure that clinical information systems are being used optimally to improved patient management and to measure achievements in relation to RHD control;
  • Develop systems within ACCHSs for continuous quality improvement of RHD control activities;
  • Ensure that the engagement between RHD control programs in ACCHSs and the South Australian RHD Register contributes to better patient outcomes;
  • Liaise regularly with staff employed on the South Australian RHD Program and the Nganampa Health Council RHD program, and participate in the South Australian RHD Program Advisory Group.
